What do we do?

FOR OUR PARENTS

Our backbone is monthly peer counseling meetings for parents. We share resources and our own experience on topics such as:

special needs, coping with schools, learning disabilities, educational testing, special education/private or residential schools

finding therapists, psychiatrists

coping with holidays and vacation; finding summer camps

celebrating our children's achievements

the teen years

anger and parenting

raising children of color in a racist society.

WE ALSO...

Lead workshops at conferences: provide speakers on adoption of older children and transracial and transcultural adoption.

Give support and information to families in crisis (including temporary separation of children in hospitals or residential care).

We are working on a Buddy Program--matching up families facing similar issues who are seeking to network and share problems and solutions.

...FOR OUR CHILDREN

We want our children to know each other. During our meetings, our kids socialize. They usually go to a movie, under supervision.

our children attend cultural activities from their birth cultures.

We visit water parks, have picnics.

We hold an annual family candle-lighting ceremony at the year's end.
